Introducing: Carina Round

Carina Round is a British singer/songwriter who I first came across while she was on tour with Puscifer. (Maynard James Keenan of Tool fame's solo project) I was blown away by her vocals and stage presence, so I immediately started hunting her down on the internetz.

In 2009 she released a five-track EP called Things You Should Know. She actually has a back catalog dating back to 2001, but it's her most recent work in particular that I have been the most taken with. Many have compared her to PJ Harvey, though she has said she is more directly influenced by Patti Smith.

The lead promotional single off of Things You Should Know is Backseat. For me, it's a slow burner that I wasn't immediately taken by, but the song lightheartedly glides along at it's own pace until about 1:42 minutes in. Then it stops and builds itself on layered vocals and amazing atmosphere, the likes of which I've only seen Radiohead achieve.

She is in the midst of recording another full length studio album that I am drooling to get my hands on. Give her a try. You have nothing to lose, and everything to gain.
