Article of which I speak.
Check out this article about the Wisconsin Assembly. There are a few key lines in the text of the article that I find... disturbing.
For instance:
"...but minority Democrats in that house have fled to Illinois to prevent a vote. No one knows when they will return from hiding. Republicans who control the chamber sent state troopers out looking for them at their homes on Thursday, but they turned up nothing."
" launched a filibuster, throwing out dozens of amendments and delivering rambling speeches."
"Only 13 of the 38 Democratic members managed to vote in time."
Now, I'm not taking sides in the debate. I don't have any frame of reference for what's going on between republicans and democrats in this union squabble. My concern is for how our government functions. Is "hiding" from a vote in another state really a valid and responsible way to run the government? Are these the people we elect? No wonder the Federal government is so screwed up, we can't even get it right on the state level.
Time to bitch about fonts again. I just looked at your site in Chrome, and it looks like your blog is titled "THE" :p
ReplyDeleteLooks fine in other browsers though.
Haha, I can't stand the bright red font. It makes me sequent(not sure if I spelled that right). http://www.colourlovers.com/ <<<Check that out for some nice color combos. What I get from your post is more like, why do they feel like they need to run from a vote? Did you hear about the prank call to the guy running the show? That is some slippery stuff on both sides.
ReplyDeleteI too am confused that they ran. As John Stuart noted, that's not really how to interpret that "when the going gets tough" saying. These are the people who are supposed to STAND for something, for their constituents. Not just run when they know their stance won't make a difference. What lessons are they teaching people here? I can't wait to hear their explanations. Personally, I'm hoping they've all been kidnapped by some psycho who left a note giving the impression of running from the vote.
ReplyDeleteBut I side with the protesters, mostly because I believe if we're gonna cut benefits and salaries we should start with our elected officials who should serve as citizens and not as some extra-special people who get to make themselves their own sets of rules.
Like the blog, Ace - needed something besides facebook and netflix to distract me from homework anyway.
